Et oui, les enfants. S’il en est encore parmi vous qui l’ignorez, la rentrée scolaire a lieu cette semaine.  Un moment compliqué, la rentrée: à  la fois fin d’un cycle et début de quelque chose de nouveau. A tous, bon courage et agréables découvertes !

Ici Graulhet s’achemine aussi vers la rentrée, avec la reprise des chroniques régulières d’ici la fin de cette semaine. En attendant, un petit souffle de bonne humeur avec Montand, Prévert et Kosma.

Well, kids, if any of you were still unaware of it, this week is the start of the school  year. Going back to school is always a complicated moment, marking the end of one cycle and the beginning of another. Good luck and pleasant discoveries to all!

Question de prendre un peu de champs avant la rentrée automnale, de plus en plus imminente, voici un aperçu du Château de Montségur en Ariège, que d’aucuns auront peut-être admiré pendant leur vacances – et dont les autres pourront au moins profité par l’image.

Passage Docteur Beaumelou hier en fin de journée avec Cybèle, je n’ai pu m’empêcher de penser à ce que Colette aurait fait de la scenteur mêlée du romarin et de la lavande que j’y ai croisée. Ce petit hommage est dédié à sa mémoire.

Late afternoon yesterday, walking along Passage Docteur Beaumelou with Cybèle, I couldn’t help wondering what Colette would have made of the mixed scents of rosemary and lavender I encountered there. This brief homage is dedicated to her memory.

Les vacances tirent à leur fin. Déjà les avis d’activités et de spectacles divers commencent à s’accumuler sur le bureau. Pour l’heure, l’auteur s’emploie à réviser un texte sous l’oeil bienveillant ( mais attentif) des membres de son comité de lecture  que l’on voit ci-haut. Non seulement sont-ils gentils tout plein; en plus, ils sont d’une patience et d’une loyauté exemplaires. Allez, je leur dédie ce blog.

The holidays are almost over. Already, notices for activities and cultural events are starting to accumulate on the desk. For the time being, the author is revising a story under the benevolent (but attentive) gaze of the members of her reading committee, pictured above. Not only are they really sweet but they are also exemplary for their forbearance and loyalty.  Oh, and here  – I dedicate this blogpost to them.

* For English readers:  Born Viviane Dreyfus in Paris in 1925, Viviane Forrester lived in exile in Spain during the Second World War. She is literary critic at Le Monde and a frequent collaborator of both Le Nouvel Observateur and La Quinzaine Littéraire. She is considered a specialist of Virginia Woolf and Vincent Van Gogh. At the international level, she is known mostly for her  resolutely  left-wing outlook, expressed in books of political commentary such as The Economic Horror. While I share several of  Mrs. Forrester’s opinions in social matters, I have not read her political works; therefore I cannot comment on the value of her argumentation in that field.

Habituellement, j’utilise l’une de mes photos pour illustrer la pensée du jour. Mais cette image de formations nuageuses au-dessus de l’Australie m’a semblé si merveilleuse  que j’ai décidé qu’elle méritait de circuler encore. On ignore l’origine de ces formations nuageuses que les Australiens appellent des ‘Morning glory clouds’ (des nuages ‘gloire du matin’.) On ne peut qu’être d’accord avec cette désignation.

Usually, I use one of my own photos to illustrate the Thought of the Day. But this picture of cloud formations over Australia seemed so wonderful to me I decided it should keep on circulating. No one knows the origin of this type of  cloud formation the Australians call ‘Morning glory clouds’. We can only agree with the designation.
